Prayer Focus
Nurse Where Are You?
When a Nurse brings professional concerns to the God before whom we took our pledge, He gives us a vision of His plan and purpose for Nurses and through Nurses.
Very often He does this by bringing words of a song, a tune, something we have read or heard in the media, and from His Word found not only in the Bible but in many an obscure place.
The Hymn “How Great Thou Art” stimulated my thinking as I contemplated the sorry plight of Nurses and Nursing in India and increasingly throughout the world.
It lifted my thoughts to see what God’s plan is for each Nurse and our Profession, and what I saw made a deep impact – Each Nurse so precious in His sight when all around is the evidence that produces such deep concern and the conviction to find a better way.
God takes our genuine deep concern to lead us into a fresh vision that sharpens conviction and generates compassionate action.
Since the early 90’s these words that flowed through my mind have become the basis of daily prayer for every Nurse in every situation in every country. Effective prayer opens doors for constructive action that contributes to the healthy resolution of deep concerns.
While the traditional female gender for Nurses is used let us never forget that in Christ there is neither male nor female, we are all one in Christ. We are Nurses, called and chosen by God for the very special purpose of caring with His love and compassion for all human beings everywhere.
O LORD my God
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works THY hands hath made,
I see each Nurse
THY gifts and grace perfecting,
In her/him THY plan of love unfolding,
To reach THY children –
Broken, Bleeding, Suffering. |
Thee the Potter, she/he the clay,
Thy Power her skills perfecting,
Thy Love her whole life flooding,
Thy Counsel her thoughts refining,
Thy Wisdom her actions constraining,
Thy Peace her stress overcoming,
Thy Glory in her life unfolding. |
Each Nurse growing in the knowledge of God,
Each Nurse kept by the mighty power of the Risen Christ
Each Nurse walking in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
Each Nurse spreading the fragrance of Christ
Where-so-ever the Saviour of all mankind leads her/him,
At home, in hospital, in the community, in the nation, in the world |
What blessings will flow in and through the life of every Nurse, as each Nurse reading joins us in earnest prayer that this vision will become a reality in our generation? |
