Prayer Focus

The Time has come...

"The time has come to speak of many things"...
As it was for the Walrus in Alice in Wonderland so it is for Nurses today...
  • Things that give us a fresh perspective and hope...
  • Things that make our hearts rejoice...
  • Things that make us concerned, saddened and sometimes confused...

  • A Fresh Perspective and New Hope

    In 2010 a group of Nurses in Central Delhi had a vision of a great gathering of Nurses determined to know the 'Will of God'...These Nurses prayed that 7000 Nurses would respond by attending... over 3,500 from many States attended 3 full days of prayer... The Nurses who initiated this Prayer Retreat did not stop at 3 days, they continue to meet daily in prayer...

    How my heart rejoiced when I heard of this good news for how often has God said 'To call a solemn assembly and wait in the presence of the Almighty to hear His word' ...AND sadly how rarely do Nurses come together in obedience to this Divine Request.

    Later in New Zealand a small group of Nurses planned an International Nurses Day of Prayer...Nurses of different faiths, many being migrants from other countries came, a small but steady stream from 8,45am to 6.15pm...The ongoing aim to have a full day of prayer by Nurses for Nurses in one region a month until each region is committed to a monthly day of prayer...

    In November 2010 in the East of Delhi one Nurse suggested we establish a 24 hour prayer chain once a month... Single handed she set about encouraging and rostering Nurses who made a firm commitment to pray for one full hour...The first prayer vigil started at midnight on the first Friday in January 2011 and concluded at midnight on Saturday with 30 Nurses...During the next week these Nurses decided it should be held every week not only once a month... This prayer vigil continues with more than 40 Nurses (March figures) committed to one whole hour of prayer for Nurses and Nursing weekly on a Friday midnight to Saturday midnight schedule... Nurses from other Institutions and areas of Delhi are now involved...The expectation is that in time Nurses will be committed to Prayer in this way every day of every week of the year...

    Just Think Nurse this would be only 168 Nurses out of more than 20,000 in Delhi... What would happen...How would we see the mighty Hand of God working in our midst when 20,000 Nurses joined together at the Throne of Grace 'Praying without ceasing'...?

    Things that make our hearts rejoice

    Nurses being obedient to the 'Divine Call of God'... seeking forgiveness for our failure to obey the Laws which He has written in our hearts...and receiving from His gracious hand the blessing of answered prayer...

    Things that make us concerned, saddened and sometimes confused

    Nurses not thinking through the difference between the therapeutic use of 'Adult stem cells' and 'Embryonic stem cells'.

    The medical advances and miracles through using adult stem cells is both well documented and remarkable.

    Why then do so many push for the unproductive use of Embyonic stem cells which are obtained by the active destruction of life... by the destruction of the 'human embryo'.

    The answer lies in the fact that the Doctors and Nurses involved in the latter heinous practice have 'thrown God out of their own lives, personal and professional'... the first and greatest commandment is ignored which means the second can never be realized... These Doctors and Nurses condemn themselves by ignoring the moral and ethical ramifications of destroying the developing embryo and foetus...and will stand condemned in the final judgment... What then is your and my responsibility to our colleagues caught in this vice of socially acceptable murder which is in reality blood sacrifice to the mother and her embryonic foetus, and to society?

    We have the privilege and responsibility of "Walking worthy of the vocation into which we have been called--Nursing and Midwifery..." We shall not escape the righteous judgment of a Holy God... if we stand back... cowering under man-made laws of convenience for financial gain...and fail to ask God for wisdom and courage to do what is right for both mother and her as yet 'unborn baby' who is about to be brutally murdered in the God given sanctuary and sanctity of the uterus.

    Where do we stand before a Holy God now?

    How will we stand in the final Day of Judgment?

    O Breath of life, come sweeping through us,
    Revive Thy Nurses with life and power;
    O Breath of life, come, cleanse, renew us,
    And fit all Nurses to meet this hour.
    O Wind of God, come bend us, break us,
    Till humbly we confess our need;
    Then in Thy tenderness remake us,
    Revive, restore, for this we plead.
    O Breath of love, come breathe within us,
    Renewing thought and will and heart;
    Come, Love of Christ, afresh to win us,
    Revive all Nurses in every part.
    O Heart of Christ, once broken for us,
    'Tis there we find our strength and rest;
    Our broken, contrite hearts now solace,
    And let Thy waiting Nurses be blest.
    Revive us, Lord! Is zeal abating
    While harvest fields are vast and white?
    Revive, us Lord, the world is waiting,
    Equip Thy Nurses to spread the light.
    These very meaningful words by Bessie P Head have been adapted as a prayer for Nurses which may also be sung from the heart to tune composed by Mary J. Hammond.

    Let us all pray, then go forth to lead the way to overcome and prevent the destruction of God given life.
